Magna gardener & handyperson service
Our garden assistance and handyperson service offers help at a reasonable cost to elderly and vulnerable residents who cannot manage their gardens, or simple repairs and DIY jobs in the home.
The garden assistance service covers general garden maintenance such as grass cutting, hedge clipping, shrub pruning, clearing overgrown paths and tidying flower beds.
The handyperson service covers replacing tap washers, putting up shelves, hanging pictures and curtains, changing light bulbs, fixing loose cupboard doors, and other straightforward jobs in the home, including some redecoration.
This service doesn’t replace the standard repairs service available for Magna West Somerset tenants.
Who is the service for?
The service is available to anybody living in West Somerset who is 60 years old or over, or who has a disability or long-term illness that makes gardening or small repair jobs around the home difficult.
You do not have to be a Magna West Somerset Housing Association resident, but if you are you’ll be able to receive this service at a discounted rate.
How much does it cost?
We charge our residents £12.50 per hour and non-residents £24.50 per hour. Prices include VAT.
We’ll tell customers the estimated cost before work begins. If the total cost is £50 or more we can arrange for staged payments. We’ll send a bill when the work has been done. We accept payment by cheque, postal order or Transcash Giro slip.
MWS tenants should NOT use their rent card to make payments for this service.
Our gardener and handyperson carries all his own tools, but residents are responsible for providing any materials required, and for the disposal of garden waste. If you’re unable to dispose of garden waste, we can remove ‘green’ uncontaminated waste at a small additional cost.
Apply for the gardener and handyperson service
To apply for this service, telephone our freephone number 0800 138 6107 and ask for the community services team, who’ll send you an application form or help to complete an application over the phone.
Once we’ve checked that the work you request is straightforward and qualifies under the scheme, we’ll place an order with our gardener handyperson, and will contact you to arrange a date and time to carry out the work.
If the work you request is more complicated, or if you have to buy materials, we may need to talk to you, or visit first to find out what will be needed. If you need help filling in the application form, you can contact us and we’ll arrange for someone to guide you through it, or take your details over the telephone.
We aim to contact you within 7 days of receiving your application. We try to arrange most types of straightforward work within 14 days of receiving an order. Larger jobs may need some forward planning, to fit in with other work. Seasonal restrictions may apply to certain types of garden work, such as shrub pruning and hedge trimming.
Your satisfaction is very important to us. To make sure you are happy with the service, we may ask for your feedback. If you are asked to provide feedback, it would really help if you could let us know your comments to make sure that we deliver a high standard of service. |
