Our standards
We've worked with tenants to develop a set of resident involvement standards, and a five year resident involvement strategy, based on our resident involvement procedure.
Here are our resident involvement standards:
- We will involve residents as individuals, on specialist focus or review groups, and as recognised residents’ groups.
- We will set up working groups of residents in partnership with staff, and other organisations and in the community, when required, to study and work on specific issues.
- We will provide advice, training and information for tenant representatives and resident groups on diversity and achieving equality. We will involve residents on setting equality and diversity targets.
- We will provide accessible meeting rooms, to help those with mobility and other physical, and mental health needs to attend meetings and events.
- We will provide guidance on ensuring that when refreshments are served, dietary, cultural, and religious requirements are taken into account.
- We will offer expenses to cover travel costs, childcare, other caring responsibilities and, where appropriate, a proportion of internet and printing costs, to enable residents to play an active role in our work.
- Tenants will be involved in our governance as members of the Board of Management.
- We will provide resources for tenant involvement, including practical help, administration support and training for residents.
- We will set aside an annual tenant participation budget.
- We will designate staff to implement our resident involvement policy, procedure and objectives across the organisation and community.
- We will liaise with residents regularly on issues that affect them.
- We will provide information to residents in accordance with our Access to Information Policy.
- We will produce written information in plain language, and jargon free as far as possible.
- We will recognise residents’ groups provided that they represent residents in a clearly defined area, have appropriate objectives, and are broadly representative of their local communities.
- We will recognise residents’ groups that comply with our Equality and Diversity Policy, demonstrate that they, and their members, don’t discriminate against other people, and actively seek members that reflect the make up of the local communities they serve.
- We will work with residents in specific areas, if they want to set up a local agreement on services provided.
- We will encourage and support groups under-represented in resident involvement, such as people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, isolated rural tenants, single parents, and vulnerable people.
