New home opportunities in Alcombe

7/7/2009

People with disabilities looking for a suitable home in West Somerset will be able to benefit from one of ten supported apartments for affordable rent at Alcombe Lodge in Alcombe, near Minehead.

However, anyone interested in these new homes needs to move fast. The new Homefinder system in Somerset means that applicants must register their interest between 15th and 19th July 2009.

Magna West Somerset Housing Association (MWS) has refurbished the homes at Alcombe Lodge and designed them specifically for people with disabilities. Each home is wheelchair accessible, features a master bedroom and a small guest room , as well as living room, kitchen and fully adapted and accessible bathroom. There are also two communal lounges for residents.

As with all Magna’s supported housing, the homes benefit from a warden and a 24-hour on call service, including Magna Lifeline’s emergency alarm service.

In a project part funded by Somerset County Council, the homes will be ready to move into in September of this year. Each apartment has been completely refurbished to a high standard by the MWS team in conjunction with its tenant design panel. The design panel have chosen everything from colour schemes to flooring and is delighted that the work is being completed to schedule.

Barbara Mullan, Community Services Manager for MWS, says, “The team of staff and tenants have worked hard to design and create these new homes for people who need them. All involved have enjoyed the project and we look forward to seeing the new residents benefit from these homes.”

Applicants must be registered with HomefinderSomerset before 15th July to be eligible for these homes and will need to express their interest when the properties are advertised on www.homefindersomerset.co.uk or by telephoning the property hotline on 0845 241 5948 between 15th and 19th July.
