Apprenticeships prove the future’s bright

MWS has successfully run an apprenticeship programme for five years and is enthusiastic about the wider reaching effects this has on the prospects and economy of the local community.
Harnessing fresh new talent is vital to the future success of every business, and running an apprenticeship programme is an excellent way to uncover this talent. At Magna West Somerset Housing Association (MWS) they are doing just this.
MWS has successfully run an apprenticeship programme for five years and is enthusiastic about the wider reaching effects this has on the prospects and economy of the local community.
Sean Thompson, contract manager for MWS technical & property services (TAPS) comments, “The apprenticeship programme is going really well, research shows they are an optimal way of training, developing and skilling people for the future. We feel very strongly that providing training and employment for young people and school leavers is the key to future success.”
Apprenticeship programmes are an excellent way to gain nationally recognised qualifications and experience in the workplace. Magna’s current apprentice, Jonathan Broadey, comments, “It’s really given me a chance to get working and learning new skills to help me to have better prospects. I can learn on the job and get my qualifications and get paid for doing it!”
Sean adds, “MWS are proactive and committed to providing training and employment for young people and school leavers, we see them as the future”.
A testament to the success of the MWS apprenticeship programme is Jodie Brown, who
started working for MWS on a plumbing and heating apprenticeship programme five years ago at the age of 18. Jodie is still with Magna and is now 23 years old and a qualified plumber.
Since completing her apprenticeship Jodie has progressed to working in the office as a repairs officer and is able to give first hand advice and support to both residents and staff alike on incoming repairs requests, proving career progression is a natural development.
MWS has vacancies for two apprentice electricians and one painter/decorator.
If you're a school leaver and are looking for your first role why not think about entering an apprenticeship programme giving you the chance to enter the world of work, earn a decent wage and learn new skills?
