A member of staff from Magna West Somerset has landed a place on the England Ladies sea fishing team for the next world championships to be held on South Africa later this year.
Rachael Jarman, a support worker with the Williton-based housing association, has been selected as one of the team of 6 to travel to South Africa at the end of October.
Rachael said, “I am thrilled to have been selected to be a part of the team. I live for fishing, and to be representing England is a dream come true.”
However, dreams don’t come cheaply and the team is looking for sponsorship to support expenses such as travel to the championships and accommodation in South Africa.
Rachael added, “I just hope that enough people come forward who are prepared to sponsor the team. It’s going to cost us about £2,000 each and I would just be heartbroken if lack of cash stopped us going.”
The trip will last about three weeks and Magna has kindly agreed that Rachael can take time away from her normal duties, in addition to her usual holiday. MWS director, Tony Murray, said, “We don’t usually give our staff time off to go fishing, but these are exceptional circumstances and we are really proud of Rachael. We are just keeping our fingers crossed that she comes back with a medal.”
