Even the rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of the Magna staff who turned out in force to raise over £1,000 for Sport Relief.
Magna raised money in all sorts of ways, with staff dressing down, selling raffle tickets and quiz sheets and running the Sport Relief Mile.
Mike Taylor, Magna’s solicitor who masterminded the whole event, said, ”All the funds raised by Sport Relief help to transform the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people in the communities we work in and across the world’s poorest countries. Everyone I spoke to at Magna was keen to raise funds so I brought a team together to help organise the event.”

The highlight of the day was the lunchtime sports day outside in the rain. Leslie Phillips, former Mayor of Dorchester, chair of Magna Careline and long-standing board member for Magna acted as referee for the event. Staff took part in an egg and spoon race, a three legged race and even a sack race where four people stood in one sack.
Staff right across the organisation, including a team from West Somerset, entered into the spirit of the day. Debby Wheatley, group services director, challenged a colleague to a hula hoop match on the Wii. She said, “I’m so pleased with how well the day has gone. I’d really like to thank all our staff, board members and suppliers who have made this such a success. Many of our contractors and staff have been very generous in donating raffle prizes.”
Mike added, “It’s been a fabulously successful day and I’m already looking forward to beating our target at the next Sport Relief event.”
